Fulton County Government’s Accountability Court and local recycler, ReMix Recycling, have teamed up to offer individuals a second chance. Men and women struggling with homelessness or recent incarceration will participate in an ongoing volunteer program that will introduce Fulton County Government’s Accountability members to the world of green jobs.

ReMix Recycling offers hands on training and has established partnerships with local trade organizations such as HTS Enterprises/Center for Sustainable Communities, Truly Living Well’s Wheat Street Gardens, and Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper to introduce participants to green living and opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. Accountability Court and ReMix seek to build a network of businesses committed to stimulating metro Atlanta’s economy by employing those who have displayed strong work ethic and commitment to re-establishing their lives.

“I personally believe that we are only as strong as our community. By ReMix focusing on employing individuals that deserve a second chance, the premise of our organization displays that we stand by what we tout, personal progression and empowerment. We are one. Only through positively enhancing the lives of our volunteers, employees, clients and our community can we truly be deemed “sustainable”. That’s truly what the triple bottom line is all about.” says President, Ashley D. Parker.

Birthed in 2009 , ReMix Recycling a female minority owned recycling company of Atlanta, GA has made its mission to “recycle” in every capacity. ReMix offers comprehensive interior and exterior recycling solutions, implements, designs and manages recycling programs and provides collection services to commercial properties, small businesses, multi-family communities and events throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Did you attend Art Papers 13th Annual Art Auction, February 10th and 11th, 2012 at Mason Murer Art Gallery? If not...we look forward to seeing you there next year!

Each year, ART PAPERS Magazine hosts the two-day silent art auction featuring eclectic works from more than 250 famed and upcoming global artist. Accompanying the visual stimulation, attendees were swooned by complimentary hors d'oeuvres and desserts prepared by some of Atlanta's finest restaurants: Escorpion, Fritti, Sotto Sotto, Sound Table, Sugar Coated Radical, Sundial Restaurant, Bar & View, TOP FLR, and U Restaurants (just to name a few). The city of Atlanta raved about the event before and after. Magazines such as The Atlantan and Fenuxe ran boasting articles on the event and its success. Atlanta INTown called the event an "romantic gesture". While sponsor, Creative Loafing created this awesome video of 3636 still images of the momentum . http://clatl.com/culturesurfing/archives/2012/02/17/cl-goes-inside-the-2012-art-papers-auction

The Art Auction was a great mixture of art, music, food, and sustainability. This year, ART PAPERS placed a significant emphasis on the importance of hosting not only a "GREEN" event, but expanding on their sustainable efforts of 2011. By way of ReMix Recycling's Event Recycling services, ART PAPERS was successful in developing a sustainable mission statement, exploring alternative food and beverage plate-ware/cutlery and diverting additional waste brought in by artwork shipping and packaging . Overall, ART PAPERS was successful in diverting 1,133.10 lbs of waste from a Georgia landfill and looks forward to collaborating with ReMix Recycling again to further enhance the effort of 2013.

November 15th, also known as "America Recycles Day" is a holiday for us at ReMix Recycling. Each year, it is our mission to partner with local organizations to provide citizens of Atlanta, fresh and eco-conscious events that have a major impact on our environment. This year, we are proud to announce an ongoing partnership with Truly Living Well for Natural Urban Agriculture(TLW) for the grand opening of Atlanta's first recycling drop-off location.

This marks a major milestone in recycling initiatives for our major metropolitan. Although the city of Atlanta and a handful of outside counties offer recycling solutions, many people are unaware that these services are strictly offered to single-family homeowners. Many apartment and condominium communities have looked to private recyclers, such as ReMix, to offer solutions to accommodate recyclables in multi-family housing.

With the inner city recycling center, there is now an alternative to long commutes to local farmers markets outside the perimeter and an even better solution for those suffering from no program at all. People may now drop off:
Newspaper, office paper, magazines, cardboard, plastics #1 and 2 and glass.

The center is set to open on Friday, November 11 during TLW's weekly market at Wheat Street Gardens (75 Hilliard Street NW Atlanta, GA 30312) from 2pm- 6pm. Ongoing hours will be Mon-Fri 9am-6pm and Sat & Sun 10 am-4 pm. We can't wait to see you there!

"Recycling is an important step to creating sustainable life and support for the local economy. What we return to the earth, the earth returns us." -Truly Living Well Founder, Rashid Nuri.

In typical ReMix fashion, we emphasize the message of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". Whether it's your typical household waste, that beat up vintage duffle bag or even human beings...our company culture exemplifies the beauty of a second chance. And we often meet other organizations and individuals that feel exactly the same. Case and point...The Melissa Carter Foundation and ECOlution 2011.

ReMix Recycling is exhilarated to be a proud sponsor and provide our recycling services at ECOlution 2011. This third annual event, created by transplant recipient and media personality, Melissa Carter, will be held Thursday, October 13th from 7pm to 10pm at Tongue & Groove at 565 Main Street in Atlanta, Georgia. Hosted by Chip Powell of Whole World Theatre with music by DJ Camille, ECOlution benefits The Melissa Carter Transplant Fund and the Georgia Transplant Foundation and features silent and live auctions that includes tickets to see Adele, Sugarland, Disney on Ice, as well as Jay-Z & Kanye West’s “Watch the Throne” concert.

Presented by Jim Ellis Audi Atlanta, ECOlution combines a traditional runway fashion show with an important message that urges guests to recycle themselves – not just paper and plastic. Celebrities, men and women affected by organ transplantation, and other special guests are the featured models of the fashion show, giving guests an opportunity to truly connect with the transplant community. Recycling is the theme of the evening, but it’s about more than just sorting paper from plastic. The benefiting organizations help those who depend on the ultimate act of recycling – receiving a new kidney, heart, liver or lungs to give them a second chance at life.

“We want to show the impact of organ donation, because many of us would not be here today without it,” said Melissa Carter, ECOlution creator and kidney transplant recipient. “Whether it’s giving the gift of life to another person, or in the way we express ourselves through fashion, we want to encourage the choice to recycle.”

Tickets to the event are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. VIP tickets are available for $75 and include complimentary cocktails, a gift bag, as well as preferential, reserved seating during the fashion show. To purchase tickets, please visit www.gatransplant.org/happenings/ecolution

We love what we do. And furthermore we love to connect with powerful organizations that in their own right convey the importance of recycling, whether it be plastic...or people. We look forward to seeing you there!
